Chapter 18 : The Olde Glen Bar & Restaurant

Aengus Haughey is originally from Sligo but moved to Donegal when he married Margo. He showed us around the Olde Glen Bar and Restaurant in the village of Glen. Glen is a little off the beaten track but was once a major centre as it had 5 roads meeting in it. One of those lead to the beautiful Lough Salt. The village once had 5 pubs but now the Olde Glen is the only one remaining. Recently the Olde Glen Bar celebrated its 250th birthday. A special limited edition gin was produced to mark the occasion. As well as being a pub it was also a coach house and the legendary, Wolfe Tone himself, is said to have stayed there for a night or two.

Check out their Bia Box, a converted horse box producing gourmet sandwiches in compostable packaging.
