Dr. Brian Lacey is an archaeologist and medieval historian who specialises in the northwest of Ireland (County Donegal and Derry). He is the author of 14 books.
Over the last few weeks we have been fascinated by the rich history of Donegal and the many historical sites that are evident all over the landscape. We caught up with Brian who told us about his work, a survey of the county that revealed more than 4,000 historical sites (2,500 of those more than 300 years old), the cult of Lugh and his nemesis Balor, and the ancient connections this part of Donegal had with the Roman Empire.
Did you know that Dunlewey and the city of Lyon in France share the same origins of their name – The Fort of Lugh!
